They have extremely fast reflexes, an ability that can surprise those unfamiliar with them. Mortalens are a fierce half mammal, half reptile race. At the deepest levels Ackdarians seek out precious resources like the rare Ucantium pearl.Īckdarians also inhabit the small islands and shallow coastal areas of Ocean planets.ĭW2-Akdarians-Panel_1080x1080_3.jpg (317.88 KiB) Viewed 5809 times Mortalens These cities have many levels, some of which reach far down into the vast depths of the oceans they inhabit. They are also masters of underwater construction, building vast and elaborate underwater cities. They regularly harvest it and then slowly ferment it into a superbly smooth wine. Ackdarians grow enormous forests of the seaweed deep beneath the oceans. This engine component is extremely fuel-efficient, allowing Ackdarian star ships to use less fuel and travel further.Īckdarians are famous for cultivating Nepthys seaweed, from which they make Nepthys wine. Their technology includes the advanced TurboThruster engine. They excel in building highly maintainable star ships. They have a rich culture that focuses on the hybrid nature of their living environment, encompassing both water and land. However their hands are also quite dexterous and they are equally happy living out of water.Īckdarians are intelligent, peaceful and friendly. They have large webbed hands and feet, making them excellent swimmers. This may be the explanation why Steam prefers this emulator.Ackdarians are highly industrious, semi-aquatic marine mammals. Update: Looks like Otvdm runs under Wine, too. If someone familiar with Otvdm reads this: Is there a way to resolve the issues I described above, especially to speed up SE2 and to get the intro working properly? Not critical, but I wonder why Steam prefer Otvdm over DOSBoxWin. Otvdm may be more user friendly overall than DOSBoxWin (which doesn't matter when you simply want to play a game like SE2), but at least on the two PCs I'm using it's noticeably slower (the intro even seems to hang) and has difficulties using the help file (on one of the PCs I can't use the in-game help function at all, on the other I can open the contents, but can't search), which works well under DOSBoxWin. The "abandonware version" you mention is likely to run under DosBoxWin I guess, while the Steam version uses an emulator called Otvdm.

Originally posted by ekolis:Yeah, I see! Now I just need to retrieve that savefile from the, umm, abandonware version I was playing on the other PC so I can continue it here. I guess I'd have a different view and opinion today. I had a look at the SE2 demo, too, but I didn't find the UI very intuitive (initially at least - when I played it again recently, I didn't find the UI so bad, perhaps I'll get into the game itself, too), and SE1 was totally new to me when it was released on Steam a couple of days ago.Īll in all, I spent the most time with SE games around the time SE4 and 5 were released and one or two years after that, and that's quite some time ago. Eventually I tried the SE3 demo, which appealed to me very much, too, especially because it played, in a way, almost like SE4 with less micromanagement (I can live with micromanagement, but I don't like too much of it). Then came 5, which was fine and looked nice, but was less fascinating for me than 4, even with the Balance Mod. The first SE game I played was 4, and I liked it very much.

Do you recommend both mods together (or any other of your mods I don't remember) or only one of them? I just checked that SE4 Gold contains a "version 2" of the Colony Tech mod (apparently by someone else).

Perhaps I should simply install the mods, start a game, and see how it goes. ", and then you never do it, because it gets pushed back by these "other things" and back and back and. I haven't played SE4 for some time, and, my apologies, I remembered the names of your mods and your name, but don't think I ever played them - the old story: there is a mod which looks interesting, but there are other things on your mind, you say "later.
